Senior Tax Accountant / Tax Manager
Position Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant/Tax Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of individual and business tax clients while providing exceptional client service, technical tax expertise, and leadership to accounting staff. This role oversees tax compliance, tax planning, client accounting services, and financial reporting engagements while ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant deliverables. The ideal candidate is a CPA (or CPA-eligible) with public accounting experience who can independently manage client relationships, supervise staff, and contribute to the firm's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities
Tax Services
Prepare and review complex federal and state individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, trust, and other business tax returns.
Provide proactive tax planning, consulting, and strategic recommendations to clients.
Ensure timely and accurate completion of all tax engagements in accordance with applicable laws and firm standards.
Identify and mitigate tax risks while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Prepare tax workpapers, research technical tax issues, and respond to client tax inquiries.
Manage tax audits, notices, and information requests from taxing authorities.
Maintain tax balances and reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts.
Client Accounting & Advisory Services
Review and adjust client accounting records to ensure accuracy prior to tax return preparation.
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and year-end adjusting entries.
Ensure client books reconcile to prior-year tax returns.
Provide QuickBooks consulting, setup, troubleshooting, and training.
Prepare financial statements and other management reports as needed.
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients.
Serve as a trusted advisor by providing responsive communication and proactive guidance.
Manage multiple client engagements while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
Communicate project status, information requests, and recommendations to clients and internal team members.
Leadership & Staff Development
Supervise, mentor, and review the work of accounting staff.
Coordinate workflow and assignments to maximize efficiency and client service.
Provide coaching and performance feedback to junior team members.
Promote collaboration and support firm recruiting, training, and professional development initiatives.
Financial Reporting & Assurance
Manage or assist with audit, review, and compilation engagements for privately held, nonprofit, and governmental entities.
Prepare compiled financial statements and related regulatory filings.
Ensure engagements comply with professional standards and firm quality requirements.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve tax, accounting, and client service processes.
Develop and implement best practices that increase efficiency and accuracy.
Stay current on tax legislation, accounting standards, and regulatory changes through continuing professional education.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
CPA license
Minimum of 10 years of public accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
Experience with tax planning and client consulting.
Working knowledge of QuickBooks and financial statement preparation.
Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff preferred.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple engagements while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
Experience with tax compliance and tax planning.
Public accounting experience serving privately held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
Knowledge of audit, review, and compilation engagements.
Strong client relationship management skills.
